XIV Uni-Fest begins

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The XIV Uni-Fest of Rajiv Gandhi University began today with the opening ceremony held at the RGU campus with Vice Chancellor (Acting) Prof. K C Kapoor unfurling the University flag and formally declaring the festival open.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Kapoor while highlighting the thrust of the 12th Five Year Plan of the University informed that a department of Physical Education is going to be established very soon. Referring to his recent meeting held with the Ministry of Sports, Govt. of India he expressed that the University is giving utmost priorities to games and sports to promote and showcase talent from the University and projecting it at national and international platforms.

Underlining the importance of sports in a student’s life, he called upon the participants to engage more with it in order to develop creative skills, gain courage and build sense of commitment.

Acknowledging a shortage of hostel accommodation in the campus, the VC (Acting) also indicated the construction of additional hostels with the support of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) to make the University a fully residential one.

President of the Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union Tassar Anung in his introductory speech welcomed all the invitees, professors, students and other officers and staffs.  

All departments of the University have been divided into four houses for the festival which will feature various contests in games and sports, literary activities and cultural events. The house contingents displayed an impressive march past during the function and a welcome song was also performed by RGUSU, which was received with warm applauses.

Assistant Director Physical Education Anil Mili administered the oath of sportsmanship and fair play to the participating contingents.

Registrar RGU Rachob Taba, Uni-Fest Organising Secretary Dr. T Lhungdim, administrative officers and faculty members along with representatives from the RGUSU Executive Committee and the students community actively participated in the event.

 

 

Tawang gears up for Mega Festival

TAWANG, Oct 25: In a committed effort to boost the Tourism and Cultural Potential of the state as well as the North region, Tawang readies itself to host the 5-day Mega Tawang Festival 2012 from tomorrow.  

Pema Khandu, Minister RWD & Tourism and Sonam Chombay Secretary Tourism along with Kemo Lollen, Deputy Commissioner Tawang has been personally assessing the preparations at the ground level.

"We're building fences, we're building stages, we're building tents to entertain, cater," said Tsetan Chombay President YUVA Arunachal, the event Manager of the festival regarding the final touch to the preparations.

Kemo Lollen Deputy Commissioner while inviting all to join the festival said “The Government of Arunachal, officers, public leaders, NGOs and volunteers have shown great level of commitment, sincerity and dedication in the preparations for the festival.  The DC requested all the citizens of this nation to join and make the festival a grand success. “The great thing about this festival is that visitors will come and make a vacation of it. They may just have a two-day program but they'll stay for a long weekend” said Lollen.

The festival aims at bringing together the North east’s finest craft and culture, featuring a wide range of art, craft, culture and cuisine. The five- day long extravaganza of colour, music and festivity at the beautiful city of Tawang will include activities like: Colourful dancers swaying to traditional tunes, adventure sports like para-gliding, trekking and mountain biking, exhibition stalls and food stalls. Sporting events such as traditional games competition/tournament will also draw in the crowds.  Cultural shows, Photo exhibition, fashion show, art and cultural presentation, bollywood star night by renowned Singers Meiyang Chang & Ambli Menon, The laughter king Ahsaan Qureshi and the famous actor Shakti Kapoor and others, etc. will be the main attraction of the event. The city of Tawang will also witness performance from the famous Tibetan singers Tsering Gyurmey & Lobsang Delek,  Mami Varte, the English Singer from Mizoram and Shillong Chamber Choir .

Apart from these, many dignitaries/VVIPs will be visiting to witness the event. 30th year of APC to be commemorated

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) would be celebrating the thirty years of Arunachal Press Club starting from the National Press Day on Nov 16. The APC, formerly known as Itanagar Press Club was formally formed on Oct 4, 1982.

Since its establishment, when Arunachal Pradesh was a union territory, the Club has catered as a focal point as a union of the press and media fraternity in the state under a common banner. Although the whole press and media fraternity is small one in numbers, but the service it has rendered to the state and its people is immense and varied withstanding all odds in the service of the state and its people.

The key programmes under the tri-decadal celebration of the APC are the media advocacy programme, photography competition, photography exhibition, debate competition and publication of a souvenir with the voluntary participation of press persons.

The media advocacy campaign would be held at select district headquarters and in the Capital Complex involving the district administration, NGOs, panchayati raj members, public leaders, civil society organisations and student bodies as stake holders. The campaign aims at appraising and creating awareness on the press and media so that the people at grassroots and stakeholders of the campaign can take full advantage from the press for a progressive democracy.

The photo exhibition showcasing the glimpses of the growth of press and the state through the years would be held within the Capital Complex on selected days.

According to the preamble of the APC, it was formed to bring profound understanding among the members of the Fourth Estate and like-minded people in Arunachal Pradesh, to revitalise and strengthen the multiple activities of the members, to widen the horizon of healthy atmosphere in the field of journalism.  

 

 

Report misleading, says Sagalee PWD

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Sagalee PWD division executive engineer in a release said that the CAG in its audit observation did not mention non- deduction of Value added tax at source.

Reacting to a news item published under the caption “Undue financial benefit extended to contractors…….”  in this daily on Oct 15, the EE said that the CAG audit team audited the scheme under Sagalee PWD  division from  July 18  to 28, 2008 and  it nowhere did mention of non-deduction of VAT.   The release condemned the news report as malicious, misleading and unfounded.  “The report dragging the CAG into the picture, therefore, is unfortunate and regrettable”, the release added.

A/Times stands by its report

However, this daily stands by its report and states that the news item was published purely on the basis of report prepared by Comptroller and Auditor General of India. In the CAG report for the year ended 31 March 2011 (Report No.2) in page number 75 under the headline “Loss of government revenue and undue financial benefit to contractors”, it was clearly stated that “Test check (January 2010) of the records of the executive engineer (EE), Sagalee Public Works Division, however, revealed that between November 2007 and Janaury 2009, the division entered into works contracts valued at Rs 19.02 crore with 18 contractors. Payments totaling Rs 19.01 crore were released by the EE to the 18 contractors from March 2008 to December 2009, without deduction of VAT at source. The amount of VAT that should have been deducted works out to be Rs 1.78 crore.  The news item has been made purely on the basis of CAG report and PWD Sagalee division should knock the door of CAG authorities if they think that report is untrue instead of dragging this daily into unnecessary controversy.

 

 

AAPSU demands appointment of full-fledged HM, arrest of Chauhan

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has appealed for an independent home minister in the state. AAPSU stated that despite his best effort the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who is holding the additional portfolio of home is not able to give enough time and therefore an independent home minister should be appointed so that law and order situation is taken proper care. The union believes the independent home minister will give better governance.

Reacting to the recent drama staged by former SIC chief and IPS officer MS Chauhan, AAPSU called on state government to declare him anti-Arunachal for defaming state and arrest him as per the law. “Chauhan by staging such drama brought bad name to the state at national level. Police also failed to tell us why he created such drama. The police should arrest Chauhan and bring him back to the state,” said AAPSU.  

An AAPSU delegation yesterday called on CM Tuki and sought financial assistance of Taleh Dasi, the former deputy speaker of AAPSU and a contesting candidate for ongoing election. Dasi received grievous injuries in a road accident near Banderdewa few days ago.

The CM Tuki while expressing sadness over news immediately provided Rs 2 lakh for medical assistance.

Union further clarified that recent platform speech for contesting candidates at Rajiv Gandhi University was conducted without its consent and therefore it is unfair to blame them for the unfortunate incident related to it on AAPSU.

 

 

HSRP project launched in Arunachal  

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Arunachal Pradesh Transport Department launched its High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) project at District Transport Office (DTO) recently.

Briefing about the importance of HSRP, Papum Pare District  DTO, Marik Loyi informed that High Security Plate will restrain fake registration plate, robberies and other vehicle related crimes. ‘Due to fancy registration plates and roadside registration it become difficult to identify the vehicles involved in crime, traffic offence, road rage or hit and run cases.’

Loyi also informed that the HSRP will replace the existing system of maintaining the records manually. HSRP will create computerized data of old and new vehicles and from now onwards and every vehicle has to be registered with HSRP.

Loyi further said that ‘All the states of the North East have adopted the HSRP, and Government of India has clearly assigned two years to amend every existing vehicles registration plate into HSRP.’  Shimit Utsch India Private limited, General Manager Atul Sharma informed that HSRP will provide reflective feature, chromium based hologram, security in script, laser etched 9 digit alpha numerical code, snap lock, third License plate sticker on wind screen and also online connectivity.  As per rule 50, the plate shall be a solid unit made of 1.0mm aluminum confirming to DIN 175/DIN 1783 or ISO 7591.

Border edge and corners of the plate shall be rounded to avoid injuries to the extent of approximate 10mm and the plate must have an embossed border. The plate should be suitable for hot stamping and the reflective sheet has to be grunted for imperishable nature for minimum 5 years, he added.

 

 

Ering unveils war memorial ‘Abor Liireng’

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: A war memorial - “Abor Liireng,” was unveiled by Member of Parliament Ninong Ering at Ayeng Village under Mebo circle, East Siang District on October 23 in presence of Govt officers, public representatives and  general public including delegates from Assam Tayeng Erang.

The Abor Liireng was constructed by Tayeng Welfare Society (TWS) in memory of late Borkeng Tayeng and Kebo Tayeng who fought against the British rule during Anglo-Abor wars.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Ering said “this Abor Liireng is a pride of the Adi people as this monument indicates the contribution of our fore-father in the fight against British people”.

While appreciating the TWS in general for their noble efforts to glorify the Adi patriots who have sacrificed their lives to protect the mother land from the British aggression. The supreme sacrifice of the great warriors Late Borkeng Tayeng,  Kebo Tayeng and others did not get recognition in the history of Indian freedom movement. This is high time that they must get their due recognition and the history be made properly so that people across the world know about the  great freedom fighters of Arunachal and their valiant act, he added.

While recalling the contributions of Adi’s in India’s freedom movement, Ering briefed about wars fought against Britishers by Adi’s at Komsing, Kekar Monying, Siluk etc. He advised the Adi community to preserve such historical places and monuments.

Meanwhile, responding to a two-point memorandum submitted by TWS, Ering said he would approach the competent authority at the Centre demanding recognition of Borkeng Tayeng and Kebo Tayeng as freedom fighters of Arunachal Pradesh. He assured to contribute Rs 10 lakhs from his MPLAD fund for development of mini people’s park at Abor Liireng site and urged the TWS to develop the Park as early as possible. He further advised to the society to make the place a tourist destination. Earlier, highlighting the glorious past and patriotic deeds of Adi community, MLA Ralom Borang said our young generation should follow the path shown by our fore-fathers. However, he rued that today’s young people are more influenced by western culture, drugs and alcohol etc. Borang called upon the civil society to discourage such trend and also appealed to the younger generation to be disciplined, dedicated and act as sentinel of the nation.

“We should maintain discipline and sincerity in every aspect of life for better future,” Borang said. He said the war memorial constructed by TWS is pride and asset of our people. He contributed an amount of Rs two lakh from his MLALAD for preserving and maintaining the scenic beauty of the Abor Liireng.

Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra also assured the TWS to take up the matter before the competent authority for national recognition of these great patriots and martyrs.  Freedom fighters of Arunachal Pradesh should also get the same place and recognition as the other freedom fighters of the country.

He appreciated TWS for their enthusiasm to expose the heroic deeds of the community and advised the TWS to work for development of the state and the country.

Former Minister cum TWS Chief Advisor Lombo Tayeng highlighted the historic events of the Anglo-Abor Wars and said that “we are today able to live with honour, dignity in a independent country because of their supreme sacrifice.”

Public Leader Nanom Jamoh urged the TWS Ane (women) group to keep the Abor Liireng and its surrounding neat and clean and also inspired the women to come forward and extend their support and cooperation for society’s development.

TWS President Apel Tayeng and General Secretary Geyon Tayeng threw light on the history  and  contributions of Borkeng Tayeng and Kebo Tayeng. Besides the  Borkeng  and Kebo, there are many unsung heroes of Anglo Abor wars in Adi (Abor) belt, the president informed. However, despite substantial documentary evidences, our great fore-fathers who sacrificed their lives for India’s Independence have not been recognized officially as freedom fighters till date.

The TWS appealed to all the dignitaries present in the ceremony to  take up the matter for national recognition of both Borkeng and Kebo and also  appealed for fund for mini people’s park. Among others public leader Kaling Moyong and  RTI member Nanom Jamoh were present on the occasion.

 

 

Centre assures help for skill dev. under hydro sector

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: MLA cum Chairman of Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited Markio Tado today called on Executive Director of the Prime Minister’s National Council on Skill Development J P Rai in New Delhi and discussed on skill development activities for the local youth for engaging them in the Hydro Power sector in the state.

In an extensive discussion which lasted more than two hours, Tado highlighted the importance of engaging local youths of the state in the upcoming Hydro Projects in the state by training them in the skills required for Civil Works, Power (Transmission & Distribution), E & M (Electro-Mechanics) and other activities related to Hydro Power projects.

Tado also gave an extensive overview of the Hydro Power Scenario of the state which is slated to become the “Powerhouse” of the country and Asia. Tado explained in details the need for a comprehensive Training and Development Policy for the Hydro Power Sector by setting up a Hydro Power Training Institute in the state in the PPP Model. He sought the guidance and expertise of the PM’s National Council on Skill Development to streamline a Modular Employable Curriculum for the same.

He stressed the need to train employees already working in the existing Mini Hydel Power projects of the state with the objective of upgrading their technical knowhow of modern operations. He also reiterated the commitment of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki’s initiative of furthering the skill development agenda in the state through the newly constituted Arunachal Pradesh Skill Development Council.

The Executive Director assured Tado that the PM’s Council will initiate the process of developing the road map for skill development with extra emphasis on the Hydro Power Sector so that the local populace residing near the Hydro Project work sites are well equipped with necessary skill set to work permanently in the projects.

Rai also mentioned that due impetus will be given for identifying candidates right from the village level with the help of local panchayat system and other layers of the Government.

The Prime Minister’s National Council will also help the state to tie-up and collaborate with premier training bodies like the Construction Industry Development Council (Planning Commission), National Academy of Construction, Hyderabad and other such bodies.  

Rai assured that he will have a detailed discussion with various stakeholders of the Hydro Power Sector regarding Skill Development in the sector under the chairmanship of Tado during his proposed visit to the state in the next month, according to a release by Hydro Power Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited.

 

 

Candle light march in protest against Govt’s failure to deliver justice

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: All Libo Bokar Ramo Students’ Union (ALBRSU) has organized a candle light march for eternal peace of late Tamar Yorpen on his first death anniversary and to register its protest against the state govt for its alleged failure to deliver justice to parents at Pakam, Aalo last evening.

Late Yorpen, a class XII (Humanity) student of Govt Hr Sec School, Aalo, had committed suicide on October 24 last year at Upper Colony, Aalo in his room. He was reportedly under stress before he took the extreme step after few of his friends were expelled from the school by the authority who had come to his defense after an altercation with a junior student. The candle light march was also joined by family members, college and school students of Aalo and executive member of ALBRSU.

Meanwhile, expressing its anguish over sheer delay in delivering justice to the parents of late Yorpen despite lots of agitation by the students community and also subsequent assurance given by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy, the ALBRSU reiterated its three-point demands which include immediate compensation of Rs 20 lakh to deceased family, appointment of govt job to one of deceased family and immediate termination of Vice Principal of GHSS, Aalo from his service.

The candle light march later culminated with two minutes silent prayer at late Yorpen’s graveyard.

 

 

‘Seminar Fortnight’ at JNC

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Seminar Fortnight of JN College, Pasighat commenced on October 20 last.

The Department of Education, led by Dr. T. Taloh , conducted the seminar on “ Role of Women in Social Change.” The crux of the seminar was brought to light by SR Choudhury, VP and T. Tamuk, Associate Professor, Education.

T Yama gave the keynote address. The technical session witnessed 11 thought-provoking PowerPoint presentations to the utter surprise of the entire house.

Minam Panggeng and YonminTayeng were adjudged the first and second best paper presenters by the jury which comprised of T.Tamuk, Dr. T. Taloh, Dr.T.Taggu, DVLN Rao, Dr.P.N.Choubey, P.C.Mishra,Dr. J.R.Padhi& M. Tayeng. The entire programme was hosted by A. Padu.

On the other hand, the Department of Economics conducted the seminar on “ Twelfth five year plan: India Approaches.”

Dr.A.C.Jha ,HoD , delivered the keynote address letting the audience find the glimpses of the much-discussed 12th five year plan.

The seminar witnessed 10 powerful power point presentations by the students in the technical session.

Dr.S. K. Sinha, the guest faculty, while addressing the audience, was all praise for the great efforts being put in by the paper presenters. He inspired them by saying “Heard melodies are sweet but those unheard are sweeter.”

Geling Modi and Osi Siram were adjudged the first and second best paper presenters by the jury. The entire programme was hosted by N. Darang, Asstt. Prof, Eco.

 

 

Booth level training programmes  for AYC members

SEPPA, Oct 25:  MLA cum Chairman of Sports Authority of Arunachal Tapuk Taku urged the Youth Congress Committee of his Constituency to work for the greater interest of the people.

Assembly Level Elected Booth Members Leadership Development Training Programme of Kurung Kumey District was held at Sangram from Octber 22 last.

Seminar on population and  development

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Geography Department of Donyi Polo Govt College, Kamki organized a one-day seminar on “population and development--issues and challenges” sponsored by the college.

Seven participants presented their research papers on various topics in two technical sessions. Population factor affecting its distribution and impact of population growth and development with reference to world in general and Arunachal in particular was dealt in length in the first technical session by Tater Dugi, Kenge Ango and Eto Ete of B.A. III yr (hons).

The second technical session was emphasized on the issues of resources, their changing concept and judicious utilization keeping in view the need of future generation by Moushmi Ete, Kalu Lama, Dani Kojin and Simar Mindo .

Earlier, Principal of the college Dr. Rejir Karlo inaugurated the seminar. In is key note address, the principal emphasized the need and importance of such seminar. He said that organizing such activities definitely leaves an impact to shape the future career of the participants.

Coordinators Dr. Anil Kumar and Mudang Reena highlighted the theme of the seminar in order to make participants comfortable on the selected topics of their presentations.

 

 

AAPSU calls for end to legal fight

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has called on a petitioner, namely, Vidya S to withdraw the case as other candidates who had qualified in the Arunachal Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination -2012 for admission to different colleges in the country are facing problem because of her petition.

The petitioner Vidya S had secured 7th rank amongst the Category–II candidates in APJEE - 2012 for admission to the MBBS course while her overall rank among all the successful candidates was at 15th. However, Vidya had filed a Writ petition at Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench alleging violation of seat sharing arrangement and constitutional mandate, principle of nature of justice in allotment of seats in various categories.

The High Court while hearing the Writ Petition (C) No 266 (AP) 2012 regarding allotment of seats ruled that “Since the entire process relating to admission into the MBBS course needs to be completed by 30th September, 2012, any attempt to hear the candidates making them parties in the proceedings under consideration would defeat the entire selection process requiring the state as backward as state of Arunachal Pradesh to surrender all the seats to the medical colleges wherefrom those seats are curved. The judge in its ruling announced in last September said ‘I refrain myself from charting out such a course.”

The judge in its ruling further said ‘I am constrained to hold that this proceeding is not maintainable and is accordingly dismissed.”

Informing that the petitioner is now approaching higher authority of judiciary seeking ‘justice’, AAPSU said prolonged legal fight would jeopardize the academic career of selected students.

 

 

Durgotsava ends with immersion of the idol of Goddess Durga

PASIGHAT, Oct 25: Durga Puja celebration  comes to an end with the immersion of idol of Goddess Durga on Wednesday evening at Komli-Ghat at the right bank of the Siang River.

The organizers of all the eight puja committees of Pasighat and devotees attended the immersion ceremony of goddess Durga and her four

children- Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Kartika on Vijaya Dashami at the end of the Durgotsava.

The ceremony was also attended by Education Minister Bosiam Siram, RK Mishra DC, SC Debnath ADC, Onyok Tamuk PMA President, local leaders.

Earlier, in the morning women smeared the goddess and her children with vermilion, offered sweets and prayed for the well-being of their family members, relatives and friends while students prayed for good academic careers.

During the immersion procession, adequate security personnel had been deployed by the district administration to maintain law and order situation in the township and the traffic movement had been strictly regularized to facilitate the pedestrian movement.

Later in the evening when Goddess Durga was immersed, the devotees were seen thronging in to the pandals again amidst the chanting of hymns and Santi-Jal.

The minister Bosiram Siram along with his friends visited the Pasighat Anandamoyee Kalibari and extended his Bijoya Dashami and Dussehra greetings. Communal harmony is our glorious history and we must uphold the tradition of interfaith harmony, said Siram in his greetings.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra also greeted the followers and expressed his extreme happiness and also conveyed his thankfulness to the citizens as a whole and law enforcement agencies in particular for their coordination.

 

 

Agri, Horti Minister visits Tirap and Longding

KHONSA, Oct 25: Minister for Agri, Horti and Veterinary Setong Sena said that only agriculture and horticulture could provide a permanent and sustainable self-employment to the people and urged the HoDs to motivate the youths to take up agriculture and horticulture in large scale backed by proper transfer of technologies from the departments concerned.

Addressing the HoDs at Khonsa yesterday Sena hoped that Arunachal would witness a sea change in agri-horti sectors in 5-6 years time as the farmers have become conscious of the market values of the cash crops. The minister, who is currently on an extensive tour of Tirap and Longding district, further said that orange and passion fruit kiwi had good future in the state adding that a meticulous planning was the need of the hour. Sena cited the example of Sikkim which was doing exceedingly well in all spheres.

Later the minister visited the veterinary farm at Khonsa and inspected the complex.

The DVO apprised him on various problems faced by the staff. On the same day the minister visited the famous Ramakrishna  Sarada Mission School at Khonsa and interacted with the Matajis of the school. He assured of all possible help from his side.

Today, the minister accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Horti Honchun Ngandam and HoDs visited Wakka, a remote circle headquarters bordering Myanmar.

While addressing a public meeting there today, Sena asked the people to extend their fullest co-operation to the policies and programs of the state Government and told them to work hard saying that there was no substitute to hardwork.

While on the way to Wakka the minister inspected the agri-horti schemes and met the progressive farmers at Old Tupi and Bera. Later in the evening Sena visited Longding.

Tremor in West Siang

NEW DELHI, Oct 25: A slight intensity earthquake epicentred in West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh hit the region early morning on Thursday, the Met department said.

The quake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, a ministry of earth sciences release said here.

It said the earthquake hit at around 2.38 am. There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage. PTI

 

Doji undergoing treatment

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Moge Doji, popular singer of Arunachal Pradesh has been undergoing treatment due to serious ailment at Aditya Hospital, Dibrugarh, Assam. Presently he was kept in an ICU under observation, informed Deputy Director, art and culture Jomnya Siram and appeal one and all to pray to Almighty for early recovery of Doji.

 

RKMH achieves a milestone

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Total knee replacement surgery was done for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh by Ramakrishna Mission Hospital recently.

The surgery was done by Dr. Lenin Ligu, practicing orthopedic surgeon in RKM Hospital.  The patient is recuperating slowly.

Knee replacement surgery in any major metro city costs around Rs. 3 Lakhs. But here in RKM this could be done for around Rs. 1.5 Lakh only.

Earlier, all such patients were referred to other state for knee replacement.

It is worth mentioning here that eight patient already have benefited from joint replacement surgery in RKM hospital.

According to hospital source, 6 weeks back the 65-year-old lady fell down and fractured her left hip. She was suffering from severe knee pain due to an affliction called osteoarthritis - a degenerative disease.

And the fracture added to her already existing problem. She was admitted in Rama Krishna Mission hospital and after preliminary work up the patient underwent cemented total hip replacement.

But due to the existing knee problem her rehabilitation was hampered. And thus the patient agreed to undergo total knee replacement of her left knee.

 

Bandh call deferred

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Satisfied with the actions initiated by the district administration and police department in Raju Chakraborti attack case by arresting two of the six culprits, the Hapoli Bazaar Committee (HBC) and Ziro Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ZCC&I) deferred the 48-hour Ziro-Hapoli bandh call proposed to be lunched on October 29 and 30.

The HBC and ZCC&I in a joint sitting of the executive members have decided to defer the proposed 48 hours Ziro-Hapoli bandh call following assurance given by district administration to arrest the rest of the four culprits.

 

NSCN(K) cadre nabbed

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: A hardcore NSCN(K) militant was nabbed by Tirap Police from Sweetfall Colony on October 20 last.

Tirap police led by SP Vikramjit Singh conducted a search operation in the colony following a specific information about the militant’s presence in the area which led to apprehension of Capt-cum- Rajapio of NSCN[K]  Ngabo Aboh.

Police recovered a loaded pistol and 300 grams of opium from his possession.

A case has been registered in Khonsa police station against the ultra and investigation launched.

According to police, it is revealed by Ngabo that  the pistol recovered from him was given to him by SS. Col Langney Koinyak of NSCN[K]. He also revealed that he was appointed as Lesi(MLA)  of NSCN[IM] during 2005 to 2009 after which he had defected to NSCN[K] during October 2009. He was a close associate of SS. Col Langney Koinyak and presently Ngabo was entrusted the duty of extortion in Khonsa Township.

 

Menga-Giba road needs Govt attention

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The Menga-Giba PWD road, which connects the Giba EAC Headquarters has been washed away in many places due to heavy downpour in recent past.

Informing that Menga-Giba road is the lifeline of around 6000 population under Giba Zilla segment,  Yamje Loriak, ZPM,  6th Giba Anchal block  in a release said  the people of the area have been facing ration crisis and acute shortage of essential medicines as the road remains cut  due to landslide for last month.

 

Transfer order opposed

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: All Banderdewa Circle Students Union, Panchayat leaders of Karsingsa, Gaon Bura, School Management Committee and students, in a signed memorandum, have appealed to the District Project Officer, SSA District Mission, Yupia to cancel the transfer and posting order of teachers from Govt. Upper Primary School, Karsingsa to Govt. Upper Primary School Bath Itanagar,

It is very shocking to learn that a teacher from our school is being transferred (vide order no ED/PP/Estt-29/vol-ll/2010-11/970, dated 16th October 2012) in the mid of academic session 2012-13 which would adversely affect the students. Further SA-1, Examination is also commencing from November 5, the memorandum said and appealed to the project director cancel the transfer order in the greater interest of the students.

 

RSS celebrates Vijaya Dashami

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organized a ‘Route March’ at Doimukh on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami yesterday. Incidentally, the Dashehara is the day of foundation of RSS by Dr K.B.Hedgewar.

The Sangh activists dressed up in uniformed marched to the tune of traditional RSS band attracted the enthusiastic residents of Doimukh.

The Route March concluded at the Doimukh Centre, near the main market place, where a good gathering of audience had assembled to celebrate Vijaya Dashami function.

Speaking on the occasion, Talem Mize, RSS Sate Joint Secretary, said that RSS has been working relentlessly for the last 87 years since its foundation in 1925 to empower our society and Motherland India.

Yuwa Bado, a social worker and educationist of Doimukh asked the youths to come forward to build an Arunachal free from poverty and illiteracy. A developed Arunachal will contribute to the overall development of India, he said.

Present on the occasion were Nido Sakter, RSS State Secretary, Dr Techi Upen Tara, RSS Divisional Secretary, Ramesh Babu, Northeast Shraddha Jagaran Pramukh, Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram, among others.

 

36 hours Upper Siang bandh declared

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Reacting against the government alleged failure on their demands, Eastern Adi Students’ Union (EASU) today declared 36 hours Upper Siang district bandh on 19th  November next. EASU had earlier demanded immediate cancellation of transfer order vide no. EED-2/16/2012  dated, 02-07-2012. Union also demanded for deploying of sufficient teachers in the district.  It also demanded  restoration of power supply and damaged road between Raneghat and Yingkiong via Mariyang.

 

Change TGT to PGT

ITANAGAR, Oct 25:  Expressing displeasure over the director of school education on recent advertisement for trained graduate teachers (TGT) Commerce in the secondary section, All Arunachal Pradesh Unemployed Trained Teachers Association today demanded for changing of TGT into PGT saying that there is no junior teacher in commerce section in secondary section.  

 

Yumbin T-20 tournament

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Cricket tournament organized by Yumbin Society and sponsored by Horizon Agrocare Pvt. Ltd. was inaugurated by Techi Kaso, MLA, 13th Itanagar Assembly constituency at I.G. Park Itanagar on Oct 22. Altogether 12 teams are participating in the tournament.

Kaso appreciated the organizers for organizing such an innovative  event which  will help to hunt out the young talents of the state. He also suggested that the team spirit should be maintained.

Tok Buttum, President, APCU said that a sportperson should develop his skill in a particular sports instead of wasting energy for achievements at different sports activities.

Farmers’ training programme

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The KVK Changlang conducted a ‘Front Line’ demonstration programme at Longke and Sengmo villages under Kharsang Circle, Changlang on October 23 last.

More than 10 farmers attended the meeting where the subject matter specialist (SMS, Agronomist) educated the farmers about Scientific methods for cultivation of mustard (Toria).

Mustard seeds of TS-46 variety were distributed to the farmers attended in the program for 5 hectares of land.

The woes of DNGC students

Dear Editor,

Although Dera Natung Govt. College Itanagar is located in the heart of the capital of Arunachal it is lacking even minimum basic amenities and infrastructural facilities.

DNGC has approximately 5000 regular students and including late collegians around 8000 students appear at this college during Rajiv Gandhi University examination.  DNGC accommodates students from all districts, communities of the state and other states also. The number of students has been increasing rapidly. But the infrastructural facilities are hardly for 1000 students.

DNGC has been facing acute shortage of classrooms, teachers in compulsory subjects like English and also in the other major subjects, besides the shortage of laboratory facilities. Many students are listening lectures in classroom either in standing position in back side of the room or sitting in congested manner.

Many of the existing classrooms are in dilapidated conditions and they need immediate renovation. Even the Principal’s quarter and teachers’ quarters are in very miserable condition. Principal’s residence is at the bank of river and because of frequent landslides and earth cutting, the Principal residence come under high-risk zone. Therefore,  there is an urgent need to construct a protection wall to protect the residence.

Similarly, old teachers’ quarters in the campus are also in dilapidated condition. These quarters are in need of immediate repairing and maintenance.

The college also needs minimum two more buses for transportation of over thousands of day scholars. There is only one bus which is not at all sufficient to cater the transportation need of the thousands of students. Hence, the authorities concerned are requested to address these genuine problems of the college.

Save the sanctity of DNGC

Dear Editor,

Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar, is the one of the premier institutions of Arunachal Pradesh. Thousands of students gain quality education from this college. Unfortunately, in recent time it is observed that many anti-social elements with wine and beer bottles make unauthorized entry into the college compound under the cover of darkness, particularly during evening hours.  Such immoral act inside the college campus pollute the sanctity of the college campus.

It is a matter of great shame that sometimes the kith and kins of affluent persons make illegal entry into college campus with expensive vehicles  and indulge in immoral act.

Therefore, I, being a bonafide collegian,  would like to inform all concern that illegal entry in the college campus for drinking  at evening  or learning driving or any other act will not be tolerated henceforth. We can not tolerate any dirty things to happen in our college campus.

India’s position in global gender gap

The World Economic Forum’s global gender gap report 2012 says, empowerment of women in India has shown significant improvement. According to the Geneva-based world body, India has been ranked 105 compared to 113 in 2011, with a gain of 8 points. It also said, there has been a visible improvement in the status of women in the country this year compared to last year.

Through the global gender gap report series, the World Economic Forum has been quantifying the magnitude of gender –based disparities and tracking their progress over time.

While Sri Lanka’s ranking at 39 outshines India’s ranking at 105, the country is better placed than its immediate neighbours, Pakistan’s 134 and Nepal’s 123. Despite India gaining eight places as a result of improvement in education attainment and political empower subindexes, the country is the lowest ranked of BRIC economies featured in the index. India’s disproportionate sex ratio at birth has not changed over the past year, the report says.

The report released on Wednesday, said the survey, covering 135 countries, has focused on economic participation and opportunities, health, political empowerment and educational attainment of women. India has fared better than counties like Pakistan, Nepal, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Turkey among others. India, the report said, has performed above average on the category of political empowerment of women.

The rankings are determined through 14 indicators of access to resources and opportunities, looking at variables such as maternal death rates, life expectancy and the number of female government ministers.
